Where do I start and end my Biker Bar NC tour? All tours start and end at Bull City Burger and Brewery, 107 East Parrish Street, Downtown Durham, NC 27701 (directions).  Your group needs to be parked (there are five parking decks or lots around the restaurant), and ready to go at the start time.  We recommend arriving at least 30-45 minutes before the start time to put on suntan lotion, crack jokes, chant as a group, buy growlers of beer and bottles of wine or have a burger before departing. Please do not park on Parrish Street.  You will get ticketed if you exceed one hour weekdays.

Can I just jump on when I see the Biker Bar NC rolling by? No, the Biker Bar NC always starts and ends at a designated spot.  This is not a taxi cab or for joy riding. Actually it is for joy riding, but not that sort of joy ride.

What food and drink can I bring onboard? Beer and wine are allowed on the Biker Bar NC, but NO hard alcohol or fortified wine is permitted. Bull City Burger and Brewery fills 64 ounce and 32 ounce growlers with fresh beer right from the taps and they sell bottles of red and white wine at regular inexpensive, wine shop prices.  Come early to shop for beer and wine.  Remember no hard liquor or fortified wine is allowed on the bike.  If you are caught with hard alcohol, you get to walk home. Light snacks are encouraged such as pretzels, granola bars, etc.  Growlers of beer and bottles of wine can be recapped/corked for take away if not finished at the end of a ride. Beer and wine glass bottles must be stored in the cooler. All drinking of alcohol must be consumed from plastic or cans while on the bike.

What’s not included? Any outside food or drink, you'd like to purchase at a bar or restaurant stop, is not included in the cost of the bike rental. So if you are on a food tour or pub crawl be prepared to pay for any additional food or drink you choose to purchase.  Remember we are on a schedule so ordering a three course meal on a food tour is probably not going to work out.

Are kegs allowed on board? No, it's simply too much beer on board.

What should I bring for my tour? We provide the bike, a drink cooler and the bike captain. You can pre-purchase bottled water, ice for the cooler, and Stack cups at the time of booking and save you the hassle.  Please bring, decorations, light snacks and Bluetooth devices for music.  Bull City Burger and Brewery sells silicone logo pints for $10 which are great for biking, the pool, beach and camping. The silicone pints are virtually indestructible, dishwasher safe and the logo won’t fade or chip off. We also offer “Stack Cups” which are plastic and washable for $2 each.

Is there a minimum or maximum age to ride? Riders must be 16 years or older.  Please bring IDs or proof of age. A group under the age of 18 will require at least one adult supervisor.  There is no upper age limit to ride the bike.  Centenarians ride free, so bring Grandma or Grandpa.

What is the minimum number and maximum number of riders on the bike? You will want at least 8 riders to share the load, but we feel 10 is better.  More riders make the work easier. The bike seats up to 14 riders with 10 people pedaling, 2 extra bike seats and 2 free-loaders on the back bench seat.  Riders are welcome to change seats at designated stop points so everyone gets a turn pedaling the bike.

I'm a group of 6 or less, can we still go? Definitely maybe.  We will attempt to find another small group to fill the bike. Please contact us via email (bottom right corner) and we’ll try to find partners to share in the fun. Please give us as much notice as possible and we’ll put an APB out to try to find more riders. No promises, but we’ll do our best to fill the bike. If you have at least 6 people we will have a better chance of getting a complete ride together.

What hours does the Biker Bar NC run? Tours can begin as early as 9:00 a.m. We schedule a half hour between each tour to assure we have enough time to de-bike one group, clean the bike, and board the next. NOTE: the last tour of the evening is a premium tour called the Moonlight Ride, where the pricing remains the same, but runs 90 minutes from 8:30-10:00 p.m.

Is it okay to tip the bike captain? Why yes, glad you asked.  If the captain did a fine job with your group, by all means, a gratuity is welcome and encouraged (15-20% is customary).  If the captain did not do a fine job, please alert us asap so that we may fire the captain immediately.

Can I rent the bike for a private party? Sure can. Let’s talk. We can even bring the bike to your event for an additional fee.

How do I book and pay for a tour? See the Rides & Booking page. Use the calendar to navigate to your chosen date, then the drop down menu to see remaining time slots that are available that day. You will see ONLY tour times that have not been booked already. Simply enter your credit card information, and choose to make a deposit if more than 7 days from your ride. Then, seven days before the ride, payment must be made in full.  NOTE: if booking a tour date less than a week away, payment in full must be made and deposits are not accepted.

What if it rains? The bike is weather proof, you don’t need to worry about the bike, but we really appreciate your concern.  As for the riders, as long as there are no safety issues or danger to the riders, we ride rain or shine. Please bring appropriate rain gear if the forecast is wet. The canopy overhead does a very good job of keeping you dry and out of the sun when it’s hot.

What is the cancellation policy? You can cancel 7 days or more from your tour date, and receive a refund of any money paid, minus the Paypal fees or, even better you can also choose to move your booking and payment to a future date with notice of 7 days or more. Your entire deposit or 50% of your full payment will be forfeited if you cancel your tour within 7 days of your scheduled date, but only if we are unable to book a new tour in your place. Pretty fair, we think.  In the event of canceling your ride the day of the ride, we reserve the right to not refund any money or only some portion of the money paid. If you choose to move your booking rather than losing the deposit, it must be done at least 7 days in advance and can only be moved once. Again, pretty fair, we think.

A few rules and comments on safety:

  1. Glass beer and wine bottles must be stored in the cooler. Drinks must be consumed from plastic cups or cans.

  2. Your bike captain is the boss, the primary renter is second in command.  You must abide by their rules, wisdom and safety decisions.

  3. No leaving the bike or jumping off while in motion. We have planned and announced stops only.

  4. Respect our streets and our great city. No littering, excessive noise or general debauchery please.  Getting off the bike with alcohol in hand is an open container violation and you may be fined by a police officer.

  5. A trained Biker Bar NC employee is the only individual who can drive the bike.  Please don’t even ask.

  6. Remember the smart and cautious comment above? We'll quickly identify any excess alcohol consumption, and ask you to de-bike. Seriously, you may be asked to take a taxi home if necessary.

  7. Biker Bar NC employees are not allowed to sell or serve your beer or wine. We can’t touch it.

  8. All riders with beer or wine aboard the bike must be 21 or older. ID's are checked at time of departure.

  9. All rules of the road apply to the Biker Bar NC while in motion, your driver will help everyone stick to them.

  10. There is NO SMOKING of any kind while on the bike please. Durham does not allow smoking in public places, so be careful if you choose to smoke when off the bike.

If you have any questions regarding tour safety and the rules we follow, give us a call or see your bike captain before climbing aboard. The late return and damage policy, the waiver and the alcohol policy can be found in links to the right of this page. Please see that everyone on your tour prints and signs the waiver and alcohol policy and brings them on the day of your tour. This will save you time when if everyone is signed and ready to go.
